How to use the 75 Inch TV Dimensions Tool
- Open the page. The tool starts at a 75 in diagonal in the 16:9 shape, so the default result is already shown.
- Set “TV size (diagonal)” to the size you need, and choose in, cm, mm or ft.
- Choose “Screen shape (width:height)”. Keep 16:9, or pick 21:9, 4:3 or 16:10. For another ratio, select the custom ratio option and type values in “Shape, width part” and “Shape, height part”.
- Read “75 in TV screen, width × height (inches)”, the centimeter row and “Screen area”. At the defaults they show 65.37 × 36.77 in, 166 × 93.39 cm and 2,404 in².
- Enter “Bezel allowance (each side)” if you want an outer size. At 0, the row “Outer size with your bezel allowance” is not shown. At 0.5 in it reads 66.37 × 37.77 in.
- Open More options and type a value in “Extra width for stand or cabinet” if you want a planning width.
- Read “Width to plan for (outer width + extra)”. With the default 0, it equals the outer width, 65.37 in (166 cm).
- Read the viewing-distance table, the mounting-height table and the published figure beside the calculation.
For quick comparisons, use the presets: “75 in, 16:9”, “With 0.5 in bezel”, “21:9, same diagonal”, “4:3, same diagonal” and “Next size up: 80 in”. Each one fills the controls with a set of values, so you can go back to the default at any time.
How are 75 inch TV dimensions calculated?
The width and height come from the diagonal and the screen shape. For a shape a:b, width = diagonal × a ÷ √(a² + b²) and height = diagonal × b ÷ √(a² + b²). This follows from Pythagoras, because diagonal² = width² + height².
For 75 in at 16:9, the width is 65.37 in and the height is 36.77 in. To check the result, square both sides, add them and take the square root: 65.37² + 36.77² is about 5,625, and its square root is 75. The area is width × height, which gives 2,404 in² (16.69 ft², 1.551 m²).
Area grows with the square of the diagonal, not with the diagonal itself. Compared with a 70 in screen of the same shape, the 75 in screen has 14.8% more area. The shape also changes the result: for the same 75 in diagonal, 21:9 gives 68.94 × 29.54 in and 4:3 gives 60 × 45 in. A wider shape gives a shorter screen for the same diagonal.
Why do listed TV sizes differ from the screen size?
The tool’s figures cover the visible screen only. A TV maker’s support page says the listed size excludes the frame or bezel, and a retailer’s guide says it excludes the bezel, casing and stand. A real set therefore measures larger than the numbers on this page, and its stand adds more width.
Labels can also differ from the actual screen. A 55-class screen can measure about 54.6 in, and a reference source says class sizes should be within 1/2 in of the actual size. The tool shows this as a warning and does not correct for it.
Published figures can differ too. A manufacturer’s approximate table gives 65.7 × 37.7 in, but it does not state its basis. Differences of up to about 1 in appear between sources and the screen-only calculation. The page shows both values side by side and does not average them, so you can see the gap for yourself. Depth is not calculated at all, because it depends on the model, the stand or wall mount and the connections.
Viewing distance and mounting height are also split between sources. For 75 in, a TV maker’s guide gives 7 ft 6 in and a manufacturer guide gives 7 ft 6 in to 11 ft 11 in, with the 26° row at 11 ft 10 in. A mount maker’s guide and a home-improvement guide put the screen center about 42 in above the floor, which places this screen between 23.62 in and 60.38 in. Compare the neighbors too: the 70 in screen is 61.01 × 34.32 in, and the 80 in screen is 69.73 × 39.22 in.

Frequently asked questions
Does 75 inch mean the whole TV or just the screen?
The diagonal is measured across the visible screen only. The tool’s numbers exclude the frame, bezel and stand, so the whole TV is usually larger.
What does “Width to plan for” include?
It is the outer width plus whatever you type in “Extra width for stand or cabinet”. The tool does not know your set’s feet and does not invent a stand width, so type a measured value if you have one.
How far should I sit from a 75 inch TV?
Sources differ, so the tool lists each one separately. A TV maker’s guide gives 1.2 × the screen size, or 7 ft 6 in (2.29 m), and a manufacturer guide gives 1.2 to 1.9 ×, from 7 ft 6 in to 11 ft 11 in. Angle rows give 40° at 7 ft 6 in, 36° at 8 ft 5 in and 26° at 11 ft 10 in, with the 36° and 26° values from a projector maker’s guide and a third-party calculator.
Where should the screen center sit above the floor?
A mount maker’s guide and a home-improvement guide give 42 in, which puts the bottom edge at 23.62 in and the top edge at 60.38 in for this screen. A tech-site guide lists 38, 40 and 42 in for low, regular and high mounts, and about 50 in for a bedroom.
Does the tool tell me whether a TV will fit my wall or stand?
No. The result is calculated from the values you enter and does not say that a TV fits a space or a stand. Measure the set and the space before you buy or mount.
What does the bezel allowance change?
It adds twice the bezel value to both the width and the height and shows “Outer size with your bezel allowance”. With 0.5 in on each side, the outer size is 66.37 × 37.77 in (168.6 × 95.93 cm).
How does the published figure compare with the calculation?
A manufacturer’s approximate table lists 65.7 × 37.7 in, with no basis stated. That is 0.33 in wider and 0.93 in taller than the calculated 65.37 × 36.77 in screen, and the page shows both without averaging.
