43 Inch TV Dimensions

Type a diagonal (it opens at 43 in) and a screen shape to see the width, height and area of the screen, plus viewing-distance and mounting-height figures from named sources.

This 43 inch TV dimensions page gives the screen width, height and area for a 43 in diagonal in the 16:9 shape, in inches and centimeters. The default result is 37.48 × 21.08 in (95.19 × 53.55 cm), calculated from the diagonal. The numbers cover the visible screen only, so you can add a bezel and a stand width if you need an outer size. You can also change the shape, the diagonal and the bezel allowance. The page also lists viewing distances and mounting heights for this size, each attributed to the source it comes from, and it sets one published figure for 43 in beside the calculation. The tool runs in your browser, is free, needs no sign-up, and does not upload anything.

How to use the 43 inch TV dimensions tool

  1. Open the “TV size (diagonal)” control. It starts at 43 in. Type a different size if needed, and pick the unit: in, cm, mm or ft.
  2. Check “Screen shape (width:height)”. It starts at 16:9. Choose 21:9, 4:3 or 16:10 if your screen uses one of those shapes.
  3. For an unusual shape, choose the custom ratio option, then fill in “Shape, width part” and “Shape, height part”.
  4. Read the screen width, screen height and screen area. These are the visible screen figures.
  5. If you know your frame thickness, enter it in “Bezel allowance (each side)”. For example, 0.5 in on each side adds 1 in to the width and 1 in to the height. The “Outer size with your bezel allowance” row then appears.
  6. Open More options and type a value in “Extra width for stand or cabinet”. Read “Width to plan for (outer width + extra)” to see the total width.
  7. Compare the result with the published figures and the viewing and mounting tables on the page, then measure your own set and space.

The presets save time. “43 in, 16:9” resets the default. “With 0.5 in bezel” applies a 0.5 in allowance on each side. “21:9, same diagonal” and “4:3, same diagonal” show the same diagonal in other shapes. “Next size up: 50 in” shows the 50 in result.

How is the width and height of a 43 inch TV calculated?

The width and height come from the diagonal and the screen shape. For a shape written as a:b, the width is the diagonal × a ÷ √(a² + b²), and the height is the diagonal × b ÷ √(a² + b²). This follows from the Pythagorean rule, where the diagonal² equals the width² plus the height².

For 43 in at 16:9, √(16² + 9²) is √337, which is about 18.358. The width is 43 × 16 ÷ 18.358, or 37.48 in. The height is 43 × 9 ÷ 18.358, or 21.08 in. The area is 37.48 × 21.08, which is 790.1 in², or about 5.487 ft² or 0.5097 m².

Area grows with the square of the diagonal, not in a straight line. Compared with a 40 in screen of the same shape, a 43 in screen has 15.56% more area. Width and height grow more slowly than the area, so the difference between sizes looks smaller in length than it does in area.

Why do published TV sizes differ from the calculated screen size?

Published sizes and calculated sizes measure different things. The calculation covers only the visible screen. A TV maker’s support page says the listed size excludes the frame or bezel, and a retailer’s guide says it also excludes the casing and stand. A real set adds those parts, so its outer size is larger.

A “class” size is a label, and the actual screen can be slightly smaller. A retailer’s guide gives a 55-class screen of about 54.6 in as an example. A reference page says class sizes should be within 1/2 in of the actual size. The page shows these differences and does not correct for them.

A manufacturer’s approximate table lists 38.1 × 22.5 in for this size. Its basis is not stated. The difference from the screen-only result (0.62 in in width, 1.42 in in height) is shown on the page, not averaged with the calculation. For mounting, a retailer’s table lists 56 in to the screen center for 43 in sets, while other sources use about 42 in, and the page shows both.

Frequently asked questions

What are the dimensions of a 43 inch TV?

The visible screen of a 43 inch TV in the 16:9 shape measures 37.48 × 21.08 in (95.19 × 53.55 cm). The screen area is 790.1 in². These figures are calculated from the diagonal and do not include the bezel or stand.

Does the 43 inch measurement include the bezel?

No. A TV maker’s support page says the listed size excludes the frame or bezel, and the calculation shows only the visible screen. To see an outer size, enter your frame thickness in “Bezel allowance (each side)”.

Why is my 43 inch TV slightly smaller than 43 inches?

The “43-class” label may describe a screen a little smaller than 43 in. A reference page says class sizes should be within 1/2 in of the actual size. Check the screen measurement in your set’s spec sheet.

Is a 43 inch TV always 16:9?

Not necessarily. 16:9 is the default here, but you can switch to 21:9, 4:3 or 16:10 with the same diagonal, or enter a custom ratio. At 43 in, 21:9 gives 39.52 × 16.94 in and 4:3 gives 34.4 × 25.8 in.

How wide is a 43 inch TV in centimeters?

The screen width is 95.19 cm, and the height is 53.55 cm, for a 16:9 screen. The result shows inches and centimeters; the unit you pick on “TV size (diagonal)” is for what you type in.

Can this tool confirm that a TV fits my stand or wall?

No. The result is calculated from the values you enter, and it does not confirm fit. Depth is not calculated because it depends on the model, the stand or wall mount, and the connections. Measure the set and the space before you buy or mount.
